The work of Wacław Borowski depicts a shepherd accompanied by a dog near two young women. The composition adopts a vertical format with a relatively tight framing that organizes the figures around a central axis marked by the tree located in the center of the scene. This tree acts as a structuring element of the composition, separating while simultaneously connecting the different characters in a common space.

Thus, the composition is divided into two parts with, in the foreground on the left, the shepherd and his dog in motion, and, on the right, the two more static young women. This opposition between movement and stillness introduces a discreet tension within the scene and contributes to the implicit narrative of the work.

The man is depicted standing, walking, his bust slightly turned and his gaze directed towards the two young women. He wears a dark hat and a cape revealing his bare torso, suggesting a certain rusticity and proximity to nature. He holds a staff accentuating his status as a shepherd. At his side stands a small brown dog. The dynamic posture of the shepherd contrasts with the more contemplative attitude of the female figures, reinforcing the duality between action and interiority.

Among the two young women, one is seated on the ground in a relaxed position and turned towards the shepherd. Her bust is bare, revealing her chest, while her legs are covered by a light white cloth that also wraps around her hips. Oriented towards the man, the expression on her face suggests a form of attention or silent exchange. The other female figure is standing, leaning against the tree, her hand placed on the trunk. She wears a long light-colored dress. Her gaze expresses a form of interiority and calm.

The background opens onto a landscape with a bluish sky treated in a diffuse manner. The chromatic palette relies on soft tones composed of blues, greens, and browns, associated with lighter shades for the flesh tones and draperies. The light appears subdued and enveloping, contributing to the silent and meditative atmosphere of the scene.
